Cardio-Phlebotomy

The Medical Assistant program at Health Training Center can be completed in as little as 20 weeks. For the first 16 weeks, students receive instruction and practice clinical skills in the classroom and lab. After the class time, the final 4 weeks take place out in the field for an externship experience. During the program, experienced instructors provide instruction on the clinical skills needed to work as a Medical Assistant. Some of these skills consist of phlebotomy (blood draws), performing an EKG (sometimes called an ECG), injections, physical exams, sterile techniques, medical terminology, exam room preparation, taking vital signs, and assessing patients. Our Medical Assistant program is focused entirely on the clinical technical requirements and requires four classes. After successfully completing the program, students should be prepared to work in a entry-level positions in a variety of medical settings like medical doctors’ offices, HMOs, clinics, and hospitals with inpatient and exam rooms.

The Medical Assistant classes are Introduction to Healthcare, Phlebotomy Techniques, EKG Techniques/CPR, and Clinical Medical Assisting Techniques. Each of these classes are specifically designed to provide students with a different set of skills that will prepare them for certification and their future career in the healthcare field.
